Golden Globes show opens, with 'Lincoln' tipped for gold

LOS ANGELES: The Golden Globes show got underway Sunday, with Steven Spielberg's political drama "Lincoln" competing in seven categories at Hollywood's biggest pre-Oscars awards show.

The three-hour telecast was being beamed live from the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills, after Tinseltown's finest paraded down the red carpet for a couple of hours before show time.

Ben Affleck's Iran drama "Argo" and Quentin Tarantino's spaghetti Western tribute "Django Unchained" were also frontrunners for top awards, with five nominations apiece.

Taiwanese-American Ang Lee is also up for best movie with his sumptuous 3D adventure "Life of Pi," as is Oscar-winning Kathryn Bigelow's controversial Osama bin Laden manhunt movie "Zero Dark Thirty."
